South Dakota Community Foundation (SDCF) recently presented Dr. Dennis & Dorothy Epp with the Hometown Hero award, a SDCF Legacy Society tier.

Dr. Epp, a beloved figure in Freeman, has dedicated his life to serving others through his medical practice and his involvement in various community initiatives. He made a gift to the Freeman Community Foundation (FCF) in 2023 that was the largest the FCF had ever received, pushing its endowment above $1 million. His commitment to improving the lives of those around him embodies the spirit of the Hometown Hero award.

"We are thrilled to recognize Dr. Epp as a Hometown Hero and welcome him into our Legacy Society," said Jeff Veltkamp, SDCF Director of Development. "His dedication to the people of Freeman is truly inspiring, and his impact will be felt for generations to come."

Emily Hofer, Chair of Freeman Community Foundation Advisory Council, expressed her admiration for Dr. Epp's work. "Dr. Epp has been a pillar of our community for decades. His kindness, compassion and unwavering commitment to our town make him a true Hometown Hero."
